General Information--

Many of you who hike with us have particular trails you especially enjoy. If you would like to hike with our staff on a favorite trail of yours please call the Upward Trails office at 503-630-4385 or talk to a guide to make that request. This holds true for cross-county ski or snowshoe trips upcoming also. Let us know. Thanks.

March 15th...2008.Sat.— See the other falls of Tanner Creek Canyon. Hike a total of 4 miles to a view of 4 lacey waterfalls at the old Wauna Point trailhead. Columbia Gorge, OR.

March 22nd...2008.Sat.— Hike Ruckel Ridge to Buck Point, climb to bizarre-looking pinnacles, then take an obscure trail to the base of Ruckel Falls. 2 hard miles followed by 1 easy mile. Columbia Gorge, OR.

April 26th...2008.Sat.— See Oregon’s oldest Covered Bridge and McKay Falls on the way to beautiful Abiqua Falls east of Salem. Then on to Upper & Lower Butte Creek Falls. Possibly explore the cave behind Butte Creek Falls. About 5 miles total. Some rough trail for a short distance.

May 3rd...2008.Sat.—hike on the Wilson River from Elk Mountain trailhead to King Mountain trail heads. This is a moderate hike of 3.5 miles one way for a total of 7 miles. Some will only be doing it one way.

May 10th...2008.Sat.—Join Gary and Trudy and See the wildflower display in Tom McCall Preserve. 3.5 miles. Columbia Gorge, OR.

May 24th...2008.Sat.— Clear Creek and Camas Trail. 10 Mod-Dif. miles with spectacular views of the White River Canyon in spring bloom. Or cut the miliage in half with a shuttle car. Mt. Hood, OR.

— Road strolling Variety day...follow a backwoods road 5 miles along a river with nice photographic opportunities. Go to historic Wilhoit Springs after climbing over some rocks about 80 feet to see a 70 foot falls. *** Meeting time will be late morning :-)

— Hike the beautiful Grassy Knoll Trail to Grassy Pass. See the flowers and views of Mt. Adams. 6.4 miles moderately easy.

19th — Biking Columbia Gorge State Trail. About 10 paved miles passing some waterfalls; mostly level with one staircase to haul your bikes up.

July 19th...2008.Sat.—
— Overnighter: Drive through a Covered Bridge on the way to Cone Peak. Leave camping gear in your trunk and hike a 6.6 m. loop through a wildflower meadow then a forest of 17 different species of trees, the highest concentration in Oregon. Bring flower & tree ID book for this one. Then on to an old fire lookout on Iron Mt. with 360o views and over 300 species of wildfowers!! Bring camera and extra layers for possible windy summit. Camp the night, then stop to see several waterfalls on the way home Saturday. NW Forest Pass required.

August 2nd...2008.Sat.—
— ZIG ZAG FALLS – The big one. Hike to the bottom of Zig Zag Canyon, then upstream for a close-up view of the 75’ falls. 5 miles.

August 9th...2008.Sat.—
— ...Variety Day....Follow the back roads to Wilhoit Springs to taste the mineral water. Then hike 1 1/2 mile loop of stunning BUTTE CREEK FALLS and perhaps visit back country Rhody Lake. Stop at a couple antique shops then follow the "Stations of the Cross" for 1 mile round trip at the Mt. Angel Abbey.

— Back to Mt. Hood for the Heather Canyon Loop.
Your choice of mileage, from easy half mile up to 9 miles. Possible overnight backpacking. Challenging 1 mile hill to start, followed by easy 8 mile grade through breath-taking Heather Canyon with car shuttle. 1 to 5 waterfalls & flower-filled meadows.

—Sat. One day or overnighter: Hike the Santiam Pass section of the PCT. A 4-mile, one way, easy hike with car shuttle. This is to plug in the gap we left in '06. Dave & I plan to go down Friday night and secure a campsite. Karen will join us Saturday morning.

—Sat. Hike into the 1966 crash site of a DC9 near Squaw Mt. in the Salmon/Huckelberry Wilderness. Learn the history behind this tragedy as you hike this 7 mile, moderate trail. Call Dave 503-668-8950.

—Sat. Biking the Twin Tunnel Trail. This easy trail of gently rolling hills connects Hood River to Mosier with beautiful vistas up & down the Columbia. About 10 paved miles total. Call Dave 503-668-8950.

—Sat. Hiking Barlow Ridge. See the stunning fall colors of this open ridgetop with far-ranging views at the foot of Mt. Hood. Take a short steep climb to the summit, followed by gentle hills along the ridgetop. 6-8 miles. Call Dave or Lynn 503-668-8950

Sat. Work up an appetite for Keana’s Candyland after a 20-mile level Bike tour of Portland’s Waterfront. From an urban esplanade, to a floating walkway, to grassy parks, the scene changes every minute out here. Call Dave or Lynn 503-668-8950.

—Sat. Hike to little-known Gnat Creek Falls in Clatsop County. Enjoy the beautiful drive down the lower Columbia River, then see the fall colors and a fish hatchery on this short hike. Call Seth 503-522-7205
