SAT.March.24th.New Ride Fort Vancouver. Explore the ruins of the old fort ($3), visit the Pearson Air Museum ($7), then follow the Columbia River waterfront trail. About 12 miles easy riding. Call Dave or Lynn 503-668-8950.

SAT.April 14th .New.. See the desert wildflowers on an easy, level hike up the Deschutes River Trail on the west side of the river. About 4.5 miles total. Remember to check your dogs for ticks afterwards. Kid friendly. (85 m. from meeting) Call Seth at 503-522-7205.

SAT.April 21st .New.Double Feature Gorge Waterfall Hike. Hike up Angel’s Rest, then Devil’s Rest. Then descend down Wahkeena Creek past some beautiful waterfalls in spring runoff. About 8 miles with car shuttle. Moderately steep. Call Lynn 503-668-8950 or Trudy 503-648-9267.

Have dinner after the hike in Cascade Locks, then join Lynn for a book signing/reading and promotion of the Pacific Crest Trailside Reader in Cascade Locks Park at 5:00.pm. If you missed the signings before, now’s your chance to get a signed copy or just listen to the readings by a few local contributors.

SAT.May 19th 2012.New..Double Feature The Banks-Vernonia Rail Line now goes all the way through from Banks to Vernonia!! Let’s get a shuttle to ride our bikes from the Lake on into Banks, crossing major trestles along the way. 22 miles of fun, paved trails with shuttle. Gentle grade. SAT.June 2nd .New.. Hike to the top of Dog Mt. Conquer a very popular mountain. Difficult climb to extensive views up & down the Gorge. Spectacular flower display. SAT.June 9th .New.. See the flowers of Tom McCall Preserve in the East Gorge. 2 trails to choose from on this hike: easy 2 miles, or hard 3.4 miles, or do them both for a good workout. Kid friendly. (61 miles from meeting) Call Lynn 503-668-8950.

SAT.June 16th .New.. Hike the 4-T Trail with the 2 Trudies up to Council Crest, down to check the lilac gardens in Duniway Park, then up to ride the Tram, Trolley, and Train back to your start at the Zoo. 4.5 miles. Kid friendly. Moderately steep. Call Trudy 503-648-9267.

Sunday.June 17th .Happy Father’s Day

SAT.June 23rd .New.. Fort to Fort…by bike. Let’s ride the Warrenton Riverfront Trail from Fort Clatsop down to Fort Stevens. Bring bike light or helmet light for an optional, quick ride through Battery Clark, then on to Clatsop Spit if it’s not too windy, (85 miles from meeting) About 17 miles one way with shuttle. SUnday.June 24th Guide meeting.

SAT.June 30th .New Hike to one of Eagle Creek’s best kept secrets. Leave the crowds behind as you walk behind 100’ Wyeast Falls hidden in a grotto. 9 miles total. Main trail is gentle grade with high cliffs. Dogs on leash only. (24 m. from meeting place) Call Dave or Lynn 503-668-8950.

wed.July 4th .New Come represent Upward Trails at the Molalla Parade. Decorate your bikes, wear your packs, wave a flag, or drive. Help hand out flyers to promote Upward Trails trips. About a 2 mile route. For info on when & where to meet, call Karen at 503-919-9027.

Sat.July 7th .New Silver Star Mt. The flowers this time of year rival Dog Mt. with more color variety. When you get to the top it opens to a huge open alpine flowery meadow with views of the local peaks. 8.7 mile loop. 2100 ft. elevation gain.

Sat.July 14th Fort to Sea. Hike from Historic FORT CLATSOP to Sunset Beach. 6.5 miles one way down, with shuttle bus back from the beach or we can shuttle our cars if enough come. 87 m. from Cedar Mill Call Ron 503-644-0065.

Sat.July 21st Tamanawas Falls on the east side of Mt. Hood. 4 easy miles along a beautiful stream. A 5.6 mile loop can be included. 900ft. gain. Great view. Enjoy the butterflies along with the flowers. Walk behind the Falls. Call Jim 503-718-7774.

August ..2012

Sat.Aug. 4th Angel.s Rest. Moderately steep 4.2 mile loop. 1500ft. gain. Or shuttle a car to Wahkeena Falls for a moderately steep climb to the views from Angel.s Rest, then an easy cruise down to Wahkeena Falls passing Fairy Falls along the way - 6.4 miles total. Add a possible extension to Devil.s Rest for an extra workout - 7.3 miles. Call Jim 503-718-7774 or Trudy 503-648-9267.

Sat.Aug. 11th Caves and more. Cool off from the heat exploring Boyd's cave, Redmond caves, Arnold ice cave area (some are open and some are not). Then walk around the lava cast forest area south of Bend. This is a hot time of year so not sure what will be available with all the fires that could be around. Lava cast forest is a one mile loop. We can always wing it and find something else if its not enough. Between the caves and forest that it should suffice. The caves are mostly short. Boyd's cave goes down a ways but you scramble for a while. This should be a one overnighter, perhaps Friday night. Call Seth at 503-522-7205.

Sat.Aug. 18th..Double Feature: Warrior Rock. Hike out Sauvie Island to Oregon's only fresh-water lighthouse. Level 7 miles. No elevation gain. Call for meeting time & place to share the $7 parking fee. Call Trudy 503-648-9267 or Trudi 503-484-7998.

September..2012

Sat.Sept. 1st. Up high on Mt Hood's Northeast side. Hike the very scenic and difficult Cooper Spur Trail starting high above the trees. Within minutes you’ll be close to glaciers and snowfields. Difficult 8.2 mile loop , 2800ft. gain, to Tie-in Rock with Jim, or for an easier trip with Lynn, hike a 3.2 mile loop to the shelter, then down to the Tilly Jane Lodge, then back to Cloud Cap to meet up with the other group. 63 miles from meeting place including 9 m. gravel. Sat.Sept. 15th New!! Up the alpine trail to Silcox hut. Reach as high as the top of ..The Mile.. lift. Then turn around for some breath-taking views of Timothy Lake and Mt. Jefferson. 3 mile loop, 1100ft. elevation gain. Do not let the mileage fool you, we will be climbing a steep hill with no water available. Small dogs not recommended. Call Lynn 503-668-8950.

Sat.Oct. 20th Hike up Coxcomb Hill to the Astor Column, then climb the spiral staircase for a sweeping view of the coast. Then walk the waterfront boardwalk of Astoria, visit the Victorian Flavel House, and ride the trolley back to the start. Call Lynn 503-668-8950.

Sat.Nov.3rd Hike a portion of the Hardy Creek Trail system along the Molalla River. A good portion of these are used for Equestrian. Good Place for river views and fall color. 4 Miles. Call Seth at 503-522-7205 or Lynn 503-668-8950.

Sat.Dec.1st...Double Feature: Hike the Quarry Trail a total of just over 3 miles… plus some waterfalls along the road and can add the Horse Creek Trail for more mileage and another one for a mile. Total.....three plus...and 2 1/4… plus one. Call Karen at 503-919-9027.

Sat.Dec.8th New... Hike a closed paved road that follows a portion of the North Fork Reservoir and upper Clackamas River. The attraction is very late leftover fall color, seasonal waterfalls, and 2 large dams. About 6 miles total with very little elevation gain. All paved. Call Seth at 503-522-7205

Sat.Dec.15th New... 15th – Hike another section of the Molalla River. About 4-5 Miles. Call Lynn 503-668-8950.
